KAMAX Tools & Equipment supplies tools for the screw production of the parent company. Thanks to a completely new, modular production concept, the medium-sized company reduced its throughput times from eight weeks to just eight hours. The secret of its success: horizontally and vertically integrated production that completely digitalizes the entire value stream.

The forming tools for the production of connecting parts for the automotive industry are individually designed and manufactured to order. Due to the low degree of standardization and the special material properties, the design and manufacturing process used to consist of many individual steps, each of which was highly dependent on experience. In addition, the complex components required multiple verification of the machining results with the aid of prototypes.

END-TO-END DIGIZATION

To shorten throughput times, KAMAX Tools & Equipment has developed a new concept for the standardization and modularization of components and digitized the entire manufacturing process from design to delivery. With the help of a web configurator, the tools can now be planned online and are then manufactured fully automatically – prototype creation and manual inspection are thus completely eliminated.

EASY CONFIGURATION THANKS TO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The various product configurations as well as the production processes behind them are virtually mapped in the form of a digital twin. When translating design data into manufacturing processes, KAMAX uses a KI-supported, ontology-based knowledge management system in which the data and rules are stored to control all processes. The entire knowledge of designers and machine operators is thus stored in algorithms. This procedure pays off. In the new production line, the throughput times for the tools could be reduced from eight weeks to just eight hours – with significantly increased performance characteristics and lower costs.
